Abba Father-Daddy

Beloved, do you have a good relationship with your earthy Father? Sometimes when a relationship with your earthly dad’s strained or is non-existent, you may struggle with a relationship to Abba, Father.

In Romans 8: 14 -16, we’re called children of God and thus God is our Daddy, our Abba Father.

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

My heart hurts for women who suffered abuse or abandoned. My ministry at church is Freedom in Christ and Dr. Neil Anderson has Steps To Freedom. Personally, meeting with many women, I see devastation from absent or abusive fathers. Many a woman attribute to God what their father may have done. If her was critical, she sees God as a nit-picking critical God. If her father was unloving, she sees God as cold and unloving. When in reality, God is love. When we work through this issue and clarify that God is not a cold unloving God, her relationship with her Abba Father improves. One to which she can picture a loving father waiting for her to climb in his lab and be held or to tenderly practice her dancing.

My relationship with my dad is good. He is 91 and I treasure every day that I have with him. He lives on his own and we talk most days. He calls the National Guard if he is unable to reach me. Not really. I try to not stress him. He has learned to text and is on Facebook. He is a modern-day Moses, he still preaches. The best gift my dad gave me is he loved my mother. Raising me in church, I have a rich spiritual heritage because of their modeled love.

Beloved, forgiveness the key in relationships with our dads. Even when the relationship is good, we have to forgive our dads.

For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matthew 6:14

I choose to forgive my dad/Father  for_____and it made me feel ______. And I ask you to bless my dad. I release my right to seek revenge and i release my dad into your care because you are the only fair judge.

Life Lesson: We should not compare our earthly father to our Heavenly Father.

Song: Good Good Father

Father God, I praise you that you are our Abba Father, thank you that the Holy Spirit testifies in me that I am a child of God. I pray for any one who has suffered in his/her relationship with her father prepare soften her heart not to see you as her earthly father but as a loving God. Lord I pray that we claim our freedom in our relationship with you. Let us not carry any baggage from our past. Help us not tag onto God the things our earthy father may have done. You are a loving God not a critical God. You are a good God just like the song says. I love you Lord. In Jesus’ name Amen.
