Advent-29

The Word became flesh and made his

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:1

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. Hebrews 1:3

Jesus fulfills God’s promises in the Old Testament and his birth ends the silence between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Jesus was present in the beginning as we read in John 1:1-3. Jesus was born in Bethlehem as promised in Michah 5:2,  It was foretold that Jesus was born of a virgin in Isaiah 7:14. Even that he would be crucified in Zechariah 12:10 and that He rose again in Psalm 49:15.

Jesus is eternal. Sharifa Stevens in a book Names of Jesus says, “He was present at the beginning of time and because He is timeless, He’s without beginning or end. Jesus was not only present with God,but He is God, Jesus is the active creator–the catalyst, the artist, the first cause of creation. He made it all.”  Colossians 1:16-20 says, “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. 19For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, 20and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.

Father God, thank you for Jesus. Your word in John 1:14 says the word became flesh and lived among us. He who was immortal took on mortal flesh. Thank you Lord for Jesus.

As Shaifa Stevens says, “He became a man to be Immanuel–God with us so that through Him we could read God’s heart, not from His prophets but directly from His Son, The Word.”
