Advent Thoughts

The Gift

When my boys were small and I was in Bible Study Fellowship, I had devotions with my boys based on the Advent Calendar. Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas and it ends on Christmas Eve. Eagerly, I purchased candles, purple, pink and white. Purple signifies seriousness, repentance and royalty. Pink points to the minor theme of joy. The first, second, and fourth Sundays are purple and the candles are lit every day of the week. The third Sunday the pink candle is lit representing joy. Finally, Christ candle, the white one is lit. So with eager anticipation, each day, we would read scripture and we lit the candles. Anticipation of  lighting  Christ candle is one of my favorite memories of the Christmas times that we shared as a family.

This year I want more of Christ and less of the world. Ann VosKamp author of “The Greatest Gift”  wrote a devotional and I will be writing my thoughts on her question in the book as we journey together to Christmas Day, the birthday of my Lord Jesus Christ. If you can not afford this book and would like to have a copy, please email me at blessingsrockwell@gmail.com  and include your address, I would be honored to buy you a book so that we can celebrate unwrapping the gift of Christ together.
