Blessings-Honor

“Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and
power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen  Revelations 7:12

Background

The Israelites failed to honor God while Moses was on the mountain with God. They convinced Aaron to make a god that they could worship. Moses came down from the mountain in Exodus 32 after convincing God to not destroy the Israeilites. When Moses turned and went down the mountain, he carried two tablets inscribed by God. Moses approached the camp and saw the Israelites dancing and singing before the golden calf. He was so angry that he dropped the tablets. the very tablets inscribed by the finger of God. Moses burned the golden calf. In Exodus 32:30 Moses tells the people they have created a great sin, he was going to plead to God and make atonement for their sins.

Moses ask God to forgive the people, not to blot them out. God did not blot them out but he sent a plaque for the consequences of making and worshiping the golden calf.

My five minutes of thoughts on the word Honor.

The Israelites ran ahead of Moses. They did not honor God. God calls them a stiff-necked people, probably another word for stubborn. When I think of the word honor I think of the verse that tells you to honor your father and mother. We honor our father and mother by showing them respect and by being willing to serve them. The word honor is also used at weddings. I think the terminology is honor and obey. I honor my father, he is 89 and lives alone. He still honors God by preaching when he is asked. I will have the honor to hear him preach this next weekend as I will go to Oklahoma to see my dad. How different would it be if the Israelites honored God and Moses by praying instead of by seeking to make a god that they could see. Our God is an awesome God, He reigns in majesty. Our God is an awesome God. How will you honor God today?

Father God, let me always seek you and honor you in all that I do and say. Help me to not run ahead of you and to not worship things that take my eyes off of you.
