Blessings-Learn

“Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn  your commands.” Psalm 119: 73

Background.

In Exodus 15, Moses led Israel from the Red Sea into the Desert. Traveling became difficult, the Israelites grumbling for water. Moses cried to the Lord in verse 25 because where they stopped the water was bitter. The Lord showed Moses a piece of wood and Moses through it into the water and the water became sweet.  The Lord made a promise that came with a test. In Exodus 15:29, He said, “If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all of his decrees. I will not bring on you any diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the lord, who heals you.”  The Israelites came to an oasis called Elim and this oasis had palm trees and twelve springs  of water and they camped near the water.

The word today is learn. Here are my five minutes of thoughts on the word learn.

Go.

The Israelites are struggling to learn how to trust a faithful God. They escaped from the Egyptians where they had been slaves, life was so hard they had cried out to God for deliverance. Then the miracle of crossing the Red Sea on dry ground, they saw God deliver them again from the hands of the Egyptians. God who created them had a plan and now they are following Moses as planned. But instead of trusting they are grumbling. Instead of learning to walk with God, they are complaining. How often do I complain and grumble? How often do I need to learn to trust God with every detail of my life? To answer these questions is to come honestly before the Lord and surrender my life to Him. Before I grumble, I need to learn to pray. Before I start worrying about tomorrow, I need to learn to cast my burdens on the Lord. Before I reach the end of my rope, I need to learn to tie a knot in the end of the rope and hang on. I Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because He cares for you.” This is a command I need to learn. How about you? Blessings.

Stop.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6
