Blessings-Teach

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as front-lets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:4-8

Desert of Sinai is the usual name, though Horeb also occurs (Exodus 3:1; Exodus 17:6; Exodus 33:6), applying both to the “Mount of God” and to the desert of Rephidim, some 20 miles to the Northwest.

Background.

In Exodus 19, Moses and Israelites have traveled for three months when they arrive at the  entered the Desert of Sinai and they camped in front of the Mount of God, Horeb.   Exodus 19:3-6  3Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: 4‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6youa will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”

The people agreed, they were willing to do what God had asked them to do, they prepared by consecrating themselves. On the third day, in a dramatic fashion there was thunder and lightning, a thick cloud covered the mountain and a trumpet could be heard.  The Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain. He told Moses to tell the people to not come up the mountain. The mountain was holy. In Exodus 20, the first set of commandments are given to the people of Israel.  More on this tomorrow.

The Ten Commandments

My five minutes of thoughts on the word “Teach”

Go

Teach  — Truthful, Earnest,  Advocate,  Called, Honorable

The verses in Deuteronomy has guided me for many years.  I love to teach about Jesus and that started with my two sons. I had the privilege of teaching my nephews and nieces about loving God. I now have grandchildren to teach about God’s love. I have taught children for many years, I love to teach three-year-old children . In 1995, I was asked to go to Tata, Hungary on a children’s team to teach the missionary children while their parents went to a conference. I have taught adult women the truth of Who We Are in Christ. As a nurse, I have taught patients about their disease process.  Teaching and learning is fundamental to everyone. We start learning as children from our parents. We learn the consequences of our choices as we have seen in the life of the Israelites.

To teach is to be truthful and trustworthy.

To teach is to be earnest and eager.

To teach is to be an advocate.

To teach is to be called.

To teach is to be honorable and honest.

Stop.

Father God, the Israelites approached you with fear and trembling, often they disregarded what you said and suffered the consequences of their actions. I want more of you and less of me. I want to honor your word and treasure your commands. Help me to be so aware of the opportunities you send my way to teach others about your love and our legacy. Remind me each day of who I am in Christ so that I can teach others the good news. Blessings.

To teach.

Blessed are the pure in heart,

for they will see God. Matthew 5:8

It wasn’t until I came for a visit that I realized I have the wrong word for the 5 minutes of writing. But, I have to believe that God wanted me to write on the word “trust”. Thank you for linking up. Praying you are having a beautiful weekend.
