Blessings-Work

May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work

 of

our hands for us– yes, establish the work of our hands.  Psalm 90:17

Background.

God gave Moses the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments are found in Exodus 20. The law was created to give the people of Israel boundaries and guidelines were added in Exodus 21-23.  I had as a child a ten commandment bracelet. I loved that bracelet with all the little tablets.

In Exodus 20:3, “You shall have no other gods before me.” What are some of the idols in your life?  An idol is anything that we put before God. In verse 7, “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord you God.”  How about in verse 12, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land your God is giving you?”  The commandments provided for work and rest in verses 8-10. In verses 13-17 we see civil laws we need to abide in, such as you shall not covet your neighbors house or his wife. You can’t give a false testimony about your neighbor. No stealing is allowed.

Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the LORD descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.

In Exodus 20:18 21. The people trembled with fear when they saw the smoke, thunder and lightning.  Moses approached the mountain. The people declared that they will follow the law. Did you know that the law, the Ten Commandments pointed to Christ. Because if you broke one you had sinned. We know in Romans 3:23 that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The law became work for the Israelites.

The word today is work. Here are my five minutes of thoughts on work.

Go.

In Ephesians 2:10 the verse says, “I am God’s workmanship–His handiwork–born anew in Christ to do His work.”  The verse in Psalm 90: 17 says that God establishes the work of our hands. I did a study called “Experiencing God” and the writer’s said, “God is already at work all around you, and He invites you to join Him.” I take pride in the work that I do as a nurse. I pray before I meet with the patients so that I am in tune with their needs.  Blessings come from God and one of my blessings is having a job. Today, no matter what you do for work, will you do your work to glorify God?

Stop.

Father God, I praise you because you gave us Your Son so that we have redemption from the Law. Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe. Lord, for the person who needs to find work, I pray that you will open up a job. For the person that is burned out would you renew their energy and help them focus at work. Lord I pray that you would bless each one of us. Blessings.

Blessed are the merciful,

for they will be shown mercy.
