Five Minute Fridays

-You shall make a veil of blue, and

Five Minute Friday a time to write, to join other like minded bloggers, not to worry about grammar, spelling, correcting, just writing.

Go.

Roses are red, violets are blue is how the poem starts. Song Sung Blue by Neil Diamond runs through my mind when I saw the prompt. Of course, who can forget Crystal Gayle’s, “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.”  But then I thought is the word blue mentioned in the Bible and the answer is yes. There are 51 occurrences in the bible on the word blue. The verse in Exodus is one such verse, you see God gives specific instructions on the temple in the book of Exodus.

“Moreover you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains; of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, with cherubim. The work of the skillful workman you shall make them.” Exodus 26:1

Bible Study Fellowship played an important part in my life. Most of my disciplines such as praying and reading the bible came from what teaching I received as a leader. Lectures on the material read were as important as the Bible lesson. Barbara began the lecture that day covering the scripture in John, as she was speaking unknown to us, she prepared a special demonstration using this scripture.

Behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split.

Matthew 27:51

Without missing a beat, in the sanctuary, hearing her lecture through the microphone, she tore material to emphasize the veil that had blue woven in the curtain was torn from top to bottom. Did you see that the veil was torn from the top to the bottom? This was a miracle all of its own. The miracle occurred because when Jesus died on the cross, no longer a need for atonement by sacrificing and sending the priest into the inner sanctity separated by this curtain to pray for forgiveness for the sins of the Isarelites. I will never forget the sound and how it must have been that day in the temple when everything changed, the day Jesus was true blue to us and He died on the cross for our sins so that today we have direct access to God.

Beloved, God provides direct access to Him. We do not have to go through a minister for forgiveness of our sins. Beloved, if we are sad or blue, God is there for you.

How often are you praying? Where do you go when you need atonement for sins?

Music has always been a part of my life, where would we be with out Elvis song “Blue Suede Shoes”.  Beloved, the temple curtain was torn down so that we can have direct access to God. Beloved, will you take advantage of being free to read God’s word? Will you become true blue to God?

I am admitting this post took longer that five minutes to write. But I was carried away by the word blue.

Father God, thank you for this writing prompt and for the women who have written on the word blue. Thank you for the silly poems using the word blue. Thank you that the world can describe a color, the sky, or a feeling? Roes are red, violets are blue, you care about each of us and we care about you. God your are true blue, loyal, and your mercies are new every morning. We are seeking you Lord and thank you that you sent your Son and you removed the curtain from the temple so that we have direct access to you through your Holy Spirit.
