“Bright Morning Star”

“So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.” 2 Peter 1:9

I woke up this morning at 4:00 a.m. on this last day of November 2017. Beloved, what do you do when you are unable to sleep? The house is too cold to get up. May I be quite honest, I’m struggling with my sweet daddy being called home but each day’s a little bit easier. I’ve got a saying that I use, ” I keep putting one foot in front of the other.” So this morning I started reading God’s Word, the Holy Bible. The above verse focuses on the prophetic word which is the Old Testament. God’s word shines truth into my life and will shine truth into your life.

On this last day in November, I am thankful for so many things. I’m most thankful for the Bright and Morning Star Jesus who while I was still a sinner died on the cross so that I can have eternal life and be reunited with my earthly father one day Romans 6:23. This is what the Apostle Paul teaches to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5: 7-8 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight– we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.”

Love God Greatly has a sweet study called His Name Is and here is the URL from the start of this week. Peter denied Christ at the cross three times and yet he became a faithful servant. Jesus came to him after he had risen from the grave Peter do you love me? Beloved, Jesus asked him three times do you love me, then he told Peter to tend or feed his sheep. It is a beautiful story in John 21: 15-19.

My dad surrendered to the ministry before I was born, he was an ordained minister since 1947. Just like Moses, he did not retire, he preached his last sermon on October 8, 2017, at Butler, Oklahoma. Then he gave me a private sermon the morning he passed away on Monday, November 20, about Elisha from 2 Kings 2. He was sharing that in the room Elisha had a bed to rest, a stool to be at the feet of Jesus, a table to study or eat at and a lamp. I know think he was given a glimpse of his room in heaven. Oh how I will miss my father, but he has left me with five 2-inch binders full of his sermons. Most have the date and where he preached the sermon and if there were any decisions made.

Father God, your son is the bright and morning star. Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Let me glean from my daddy’s sermons and grow. I am in awe of your majesty and your light that you shed on every situation.

What do you need to surrender to God’s light? Where is God leading you?

When my dad was asked if he was ready to die he said I’m not ready to die but I’m prepared, are you prepared to meet Jesus?

If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. Romans 14:8
