Carry One Another’s Burdens

burden

Today I woke with a migraine headache so as I write I am going to ask you to pray for me. As you pray for me you are helping to carry my burden. According to Galatians 6:2 we are to carry each other’s burdens.  We have looked at one another statements; we are to love, prefer, accept, greet, encourage, comfort and carry one another’s burden.

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. … May the Lord be praised! Day after day He bears our burdens; God is our salvation. (Psalm 68:19)

Don McMinn wrote this powerful bible study on these one another bible verses. He shares that there are similarities between encourage one another and carry one another’s burdens. He says encouragement  for this usually only requires an emotional involvement on our part where burden bearing requires that we become physically involved. It may also involve our emotions. Burden bearing involves a commitment. “I don’t want you to bear your burden alone, as long as the burden is yours, the burden is also mine.”

Mr. McMinn shares four ways to carry one another burdens.

  1. Anticipate times in people’s lives when they might need aid, and take the initiative to help.
  2. Because bearing other people’s burdens often requires commitment of time, allocate some time in your weekly schedule in your weekly schedule for this ministry.
  3. When necessary be willing to perform mental and physical tasks.
  4. Facilitate group efforts that bear people’s burden.

I am a table leader and one of our group members was going to have her hip replaced. I felt led by God to present to the group that she was going to have surgery and she needed us as a group to bear her burden. We had a group that prayed, another provided meals, another provided visits, and another group walked the dogs. This was tangible help.

God daily wants us to bring Him our burdens. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” Heavy laden is another way to say burden.

Beloved is there a burden you need to give to God? How can you help others to bear their burdens?

As I woke up with a headache, my husband helped me with my burden by rubbing my neck.

Father God, I ask you to be with each of us as we bring our burdens to you. Lord I ask that we become more aware of opportunities to be of help. I ask that we trust You with our burdens.

I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you shall know that I am the LORD your God, who has brought you out from under the burdens. (Exodus 6:7)

The Christian’s life is not based only on doing things on behalf of God but to our brothers and sisters in Christ. The Word of God has commanded us to be caring and compassionate to those who are in the faith with us. We’re to love them as we love ourselves. Interestingly, the Bible even says that we have put their needs above ours. Every time I read this verse found (Philippians 2:4), I sort of cringe because we’re wired to seek after our own personal interests. In some cases, we do that at the expense of others’ interests. However, God is telling us something entirely different from our own human desire.

Dear Arold, thank you for that reminder, we are to put others ahead of ourselves and we do not see this modeled in our world today. Your commenting on this post means the world to me. Blessings Diana

Thanks Diana for your kind word. Based on what you say, it’s quite evident that we’re living in a very selfish world. It goes something like that: it’s all about me, what I want, what can satisfy me, and what works best for me, you name it. On the other hand, God is telling us we have to come to the end of ourselves and realize that it must be done the other way around, otherwise He will not be pleased and glorified through us.
