Characteristic Twenty-six of a Believer-Taught

I will teach all your children, and they will enjoy great peace. Isaiah 54:13

When I was in college in an anatomy class, I was teacher’s pet. Well, she liked me a lot. When it came time to learn all the muscle of the body we had to dissect a cat, and she gave me one with that was pregnant with babies. The old saying there is more than one way to skin a cat, is true. Much studying went into that cat. My son was in fifth grade at that time and he had shared with his teacher that I was in school and so she asked me to teach a class on anatomy focusing on bones, muscles and share the cat. Of course, we had a waiver signed. For a long time, I was known as the cat woman.

Beloved, characteristic twenty-six of a born-again believer is one is taught. Taught’s defined as past and past participle of teach. Teach’s definition is to impart knowledge of or skill in; give instruction in and the synonyms are informenlightendisciplinedrillschoolindoctrinatecoach. Jesus is twelve and his mom and dad take him to Jerusalem for their annual Feast of Tabernacle, he spends his time with the Scribes and Pharisees. He becomes so involved that when it is time to leave, he stays behind. His parents travel one day and then they can’t find him so they return to Jerusalem. They find him in the temple courts after three days. He was asking questions and he was at His Father’s house.

Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”

“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he was saying to them.

Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Luke 2: 41-52

Beloved, the twenty-sixth characteristic of a born-again believer is one’s taught.

I taught Randy’s class about the muscles and the bones that day using the cat to illustrate the different muscles and bones. Of course, I passed that class having to take a test on the different muscles and bones of the cat. I think Randy was pretty proud of his mom. There are many things we should be ready to teach. We should be ready to give the reason for our hope. We should be ready to defend our faith. We should know the Roman roadway to lead someone to the Lord. It is suggested to write out your testimony and practice it. We never know when we will have the opportunity to step up to the plate and share, knocking the enemy out of the field by being bold and brave.

Father God, thank you that you send your Holy Spirit ahead of us to prepare us to be bold and brave with sharing our testimony. Thank you Lord that you love us and teach us your word. You prepare us to go out and give us who we are to teach. Thank you for the teachers that are reading this blog, bless them, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

What do you need to do to add teaching to your life?
