So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Romans 12: 1-2 Message.
My word this year is conform and I love the verse Romans 12: 1-2 in the message bible. Take your ordinary everyday life and offer it to God. Embrace the life God has given you.
I like the way this version warns us to not become so well-adjusted in the culture that you fit into it without thinking. What would that look like? It is when a person lets what is happening in our culture become the norm. We see this happening for example opening the store in the afternoon on Thanksgiving. Pretty soon we will be able to return our gifts later on Christmas day.
How do we fix our attention on God? This occurs through bible reading and prayer. The promise is that we will be changed from the inside out. God will develop your character. According to this verse, we do not have to be dragged down to the level of immaturity. God will give us maturity.
When we join God in the work He is doing, we conform to the likeness of Christ. Today, will you join God in the work He is doing?
