When I was a child in Dodge City, Kansas, my mom had milk delivered to our house. When I visited Grandma Johnson in Carnegie, Oklahoma, Grandma would call on the telephone and order groceries and the groceries would be delivered. When I was 21 years old, a doctor delivered my first-born, a beautiful baby boy. My dad to this day has a newspaper delivered to his house and a meal delivered. In these instances, there is something we received.

God created the world and He created Adam and Eve. At this point, they lived in a beautiful garden, the Garden of Eden. God delivered a message to Adam and Eve that they could eat of all the trees except the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God had made the angels, vegetation, all living things including the fallen angel Satan. Satan deceived Eve by lying to her, he convinced her that surely she would not die if she ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

In Genesis 3 we read,

“Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

2The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ”

4“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

8Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

10He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

11And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

12The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

13Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”

The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Beloved because of the lust of the eyes and the lust of the pride, sin entered the world. God is a Deliverer. Yes God rescued Adam and Eve, He made their clothes, and He had them leave the Garden of Eden. You see, beloved, there was another tree in the garden.

Had Adam and Eve eaten from the Tree of Life, they would have never died. Adam and Eve were created physically and spiritually alive, but on the fateful day they ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they died spiritually. God is our deliverer because the second Adam was Jesus. He was born physically and spiritually alive and yet He did not sin like Adam and Eve; Jesus bore the sin of humanity and was crucified to pay the penalty of sin that separates us from God.

When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we become children of God. Forgiven, Delivered. Romans 4:25 says, “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

Beloved, God has delivered me from my fears, weakness, and pain. What can God deliver you from today? Perhaps fear, perhaps a sin that has you held in bondage, perhaps you need Jesus as your Savior you have never made a confess of faith. Romans 3:23 say that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 6:23 says that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. Romans 10:10 says, For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”  1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

Father God, You are my Deliverer. You delivered me from a life separated from you, because I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins. Lord thank You that You deliver me from my fears, and my insecurities. Father God Thank Yon that I can trust in You and not lean on my own understanding. Thank you that You are my rock and my fortress, a mighty fortress is our God. Bring your tired and your shame to God. Bring your Pain, You are Redeemed because  Greater is the one who is living inside of me than the one living inside of the world. Lord at this time of the year, 2000 years ago, Jesus delivered Himself, he was in prayer for the strength, He asked for the cup to be removed from Him but He was willing, He got up from prayed and as he walked out of the Garden, Judas betrayed Him and He was arrested. Lord what Jesus endured at the Cross. Lord I can only imagine what it will be like when we are delivered from this world to heaven. I praise you that You are my Deliverer.
