Live In Peace With One Another

Hold them in the highest regard in love

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with you.
(2 Thessalonians 3:16)

We are imperfect people their are hurts, offenses and misunderstandings that prevent a person from living in peace with one another. Beloved what are the offenses you have suffered? Who has offended you? Are you being hurt daily from a misunderstanding?

Jesus said,

Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother, then come and offer your gift.” (Matthew 5:23-24.)

Don Mc Ginn says, the verses teach several things. Harmony in relationship should be a priority over religious activities. If we know a relationship is strained, we should take the initiative to reconcile the issue. We should take the initiative toward reconciliation even if it is someone else who is upset at us, not just when we are upset.

Settle matters quickly. Misunderstandings rarely settle themselves. Issues need to be addressed and the sooner the better.

Distinguish between problems that need to be dropped and addressing those that need to be solved. Some things are said in the heat of the moment and a sincere apology will solve the problem.

Also, there may be a time when a peaceful settlement to the issue is not going to occur because the person will not accept an apology or the amends.

Speak the truth in love.” (Ephesians 4:15)

Speak: When there is a problem, speaking the truth in love will often settle the argument.

Speak the truth in love. We have to speak the truth not just any way but speak the truth in love.

If we are speaking to vent our anger or to vindicate ourselves, then we are not speaking truth in love. We have to check our motives at the door. Choose the right time and place to have that conversation. Get to the point quickly. After you speak, give the person time to think and speak. Be sensitive about what you share and how you share.

World peace is elusive but peace with God is at hand. Peace in personal relationship sometimes is not in your control. When this happens one must trust that person to the Lord. Let Go and Let God.

Beloved, where possible live in peace with one another.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. …”I am leaving you with a gift — peace of mind and heart.  (John 14:27)
