Five Minute Fridays

Relief

Five Minute Friday- A time to connect with others and to write for five minutes on the word of the week. Go. When I saw the word RELIEF,  my first thought was the Alka Seltzer commercial, “Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz Oh what a relief it is!!!”  Relief signifies being relieved, or the pain is less more tolerable. When another person comes to work one might say, “I can go home now, my relief is here.” Relief packages go to areas that experience tornadoes or earthquakes. I found this article by Fritz Eichberg and picture. This is from 1951 and it has Jesus in the bread line at a soup kitchen. The wood carving is called, The Christ of the Breadlines. 26 artwork

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David. Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer. Psalm 4:1  I called on Your name, O LORD, Out of the lowest pit. You have heard my voice, “Do not hide Your ear from my prayer for relief, From my cry for help.” Lamentation 3: 55-56 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest Come to
me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest Matthew 11:28

The painting intrigues me Jesus’ light shines and the others can be seen. When Jesus shines his light on our situation, relief comes as we trust God to meet us where we are and to help us physically, emotionally, spiritually, or financially. He is in the bread line of these homeless men. Jesus is with us, he is much better than an Alka Seltzer.

When Jesus walked on water in the storm to his disciples, the disciples had to invite him into the boat, will you invite Jesus into your struggle, your trial, your illness so He can bring relief?

Father God, I come to you today seeking relief from my headaches. For the person reading this blog would You meet their needs so they feel relief. You are the alpha the omega the beginning the end, You call us and ask us to come and You will give us relief. For the homeless Lord help me to have my eyes open and if there is a way to bring relief let me provide the resources. In Jesus’ Name. Amen

I’ve never seen that painting before but I like how you included it in your piece about relief. I like your challenging question at the end as well. And I agree! Jesus is much better than Alka Seltzer. Have a wonderful day!
