Day 5: Five Minute Friday October Challenge: Silence

“In your unfailing love, silence my enemies; destroy all my foes, for I am your servant.” Psalm 143:12

Do you welcome times of silence or do you need background noise? I just turned off the television so I can hear the silence but it is not silent. A clicking clock, my thoughts, my breathing and of course, the birds outside. Often Jesus felt the need to get away to pray. To be silent with his Heavenly Father, in Luke 6:12 we read,

One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.”

It must have been silent on that mountainside. He took his disciples with him to the Garden of Gethsemane. That night he was not silent before the Lord. He pleaded that his life be spared and while he prayed, his disciples sleep in the silence of the night. Oh, before we are hard on them, they did not have the Holy Spirit and have you ever in the silence of the day or night with nothing to do given in to sleep.

[Tweet “Jesus’ love will silence our enemies because he conquered sin on the cross.”]

He destroyed Satan at the cross we just need to be more than conquerors through him who loves us Romans 8:37 .

Silence is Golden

Yes, I am His Servant.

Beloved, are you his servant? Will you today for five minutes sit in silence and pray?

Diana, this was just what I needed to read this morning. Last night in our small group we each went to a spot in our group leaders home to pray. (There are 5 couples in our group, so 10 people finding spots to be alone with God ) We prayed alone for 30 minutes. At first, we were all like, “30 minutes alone, praying?” It seemed like a long time to sit in a spot alone in their home to pray. I went to their back deck. Let me tell you, I prayed that 30 minutes and time was not slow. As a matter of fact, I was shocked when the 30 minutes were up. It was so peaceful, so heart touching, so beautiful! It was amazing! Thank you for this post today! ❤

Oh I love this! I try to practice five minutes of silence every day. Often times it goes on longer than my timer is set for -but on those busy days, I find even just five minutes of silence can refresh and refill me! (Have you ever read The Good and Beautiful God by James Bryan Smith? In it, he teaches on silence and challenges the reader to sit for five minutes a day, which is how I started the practice myself! It’s book one in a great series of three books!)
