Someone I admire

Peace offering 1

Tuesday at Ten writing prompt is “Someone I admire”

I admire so many people it is hard to pin point just one person. Who is in your life that you admire?  Perhaps you admire a relative like your mom or your dad, a friend, a teacher, or a writer.

As I ponder this writing prompt, can one admire God?  God is I AM.  He is the alpha the omega, the beginning and the end. He is eternal and immutable. He is God and He is love. God is good all the time and all the time God is good. We love Him because He first loved us.  In the month of April, I wrote on the attributes of God from A to Z, check it out at http:www.diana2rockwell.com/God’s-Attributes-A-to-Z

What about Jesus? He has his own list of attributes. He is our Advocate, Beloved Son of God, Chief Cornerstone, Door of the Sheep, Emmanuel, Finisher of our Faith, Savior, Shepherd, Son of man, Son of God. Jesus name above all names, He turned water into wine, healed the blind, the lame, the paralytic, the leper, the woman bent over at the waist, the woman with the issue of blood, Peter’s mother-in-law, and He raised Lazarus from the dead.  He who knew no sin became stained with our sins so that those of us that believe on Him receives forgiveness, He became the lamb that was slain so that I would have eternal life. How can one not admire Jesus?

Who else in the Bible do you admire? What about Moses who became employed at the age of eighty and he delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt? What about David, who fought Goliath? What about Joseph, sold into slavery by his brothers, accused of rape, spends time in prison, and ends up serving Pharaoh and saving his family from the famine? What about the disciples that followed Jesus?  What about Peter, who denied Christ yet repented, Jesus asks him to feed his sheep. After Jesus ascended to heaven, the Holy Spirit came and empowered the disciples, the early church was born. Peter was forever changed, he was a martyr and when crucified on a cross, at his request he was hung upside down. Do you admire, the apostle Paul?  Paul is responsible for writing one-third of the New Testament. Some of my favorite verses are in the books that Paul wrote. Lastly, what about the apostle John, whom Jesus loved, the book of John is one my favorite books of the New Testament.

Someone I admired was my mom. Despite adversity from chronic illness, she never let me down. I am my mother’s daughter. I learned how to love God, to tithe, to serve, and to pray from her example. When she was dying, she saw the angels; I know beyond a doubt they escorted her to God’s presence. I was twenty-five when I said good-bye and yet I know that I will see her again in heaven. Oh, what a blessed day that will be.

I have to tell at this time in my life, there are many women I admire but the person I admire the most is my dad. He is a modern-day Moses in that he is still preaching at the age of ninety. You see God doesn’t let us retire. He is preaching tomorrow, he is preaching the following Sunday at another church. When I ask him what he is preaching on, he will say his feet. He still lives on his own and he cheated death four years ago, when he was hit head on by a run away sixteen foot trailer. Oh, he has back pain from that accident, but God is good because when he is preaching, he feels no back pain. I only hope that as I grow older, I will never stop reading God’s word, praying and serving the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: 2“I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you. The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’ 3The Lord your God himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross over ahead of you, as the Lord said. 4And the Lord will do to them what he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, whom he destroyed along with their land. 5The Lord will deliver them to you, and you must do to them all that I have commanded you. 6Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

7Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. 8The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31: 1-8

Beloved, who do you admire?

I admire the single mother who picks herself up and does what she has to do to care for her family. I admire the father who looks after his own parents in their senior years. I admire the teenager who doesn’t follow the popular crowd but sticks to his convictions. I admire the child who sticks up for the underdog who is being bullied on the playground. I admire the one who asks for and grants forgiveness. I admire the one who recognizes they are a sinner saved by grace and freely gives that grace to others. I admire you for sharing your light with others.

Dear Michelle, When I read your reply, it brought tears to my eyes. You captured those that I admire also. I didn’t mention my grandma but she prayed me through nursing school. I admire the missionaries that are in foreign countries and those on the college and high school campus. I think we have a mutual admiration for one another because I admire you for the same reason. Blessings my friend, Diana
