Separated from my husband right after graduating from nursing school truly a difficult time. Was this what I prayed for? My older son fourteen decided to stay with his dad, I can remember saying, Lord, this isn’t in the equation. They are my sons. I am their mom. The prayer didn’t change the fact or take away the sting. All my planning I hadn’t planned on this. Then the next hardship I’m a new nurse, working three weeks days and one week nights. I’ve a twelve-year-old that needs care, so it forces me to be in touch with my husband. “Lord, why do these three weeks pass so quickly?” I pen in my journal.

Faithfulness from God when we make choices even when we may take the yellow brick road and we should have stayed on the highway. Abram and Lot stood on a hill, their possessions, families, workers were at odds with one another and the land could no longer support them. So Abram, being his Uncle, perhaps being the bigger man, perhaps the wiser man, knew it was time, invited Lot and basically said, Lot we can’t continue this way, make a choice of land. Genesis 13: 9 says, “Is not the whole land before you?  Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or if you go to the right, I will go to the left.”

Abram surrendered to God before this meeting. There was no jealousy on Abram part or the meeting wouldn’t have gone as it did. However, knowing the story did Lot make the best decision for his personality? We will visit Lot later and his decision. Lot lifted his eyes in verse 10 and saw the plain of Jordan that it was well watered and he chose this land.

I surrendered to God also. I reunited with my husband not really understanding anything other than it was not God’s will for me to divorce my husband. After some counseling, learning to walk in forgiveness, I discovered that indeed I love my husband.

Beloved will you surrender to God?
