    31 Day Writings

    Thankful to be Thankful-2

We lived at the top of a hill on a cul-de-sac, we had a flat circular area at the top of the hill in front of the garage that was large enough to park the car and my husband’s truck. Randy and I one day were roller skating and Dale my younger son was riding his three-wheel toy. He would ride down to the end of the driveway and come back. The rule for this six-year-old was he could not ride past the mailbox at the end of the driveway. Dale has blond hair, blue eyes, full of energy. He always pushed the rules but was charming as little boys could be. So on this day, all was going well. Randy and I were skating when all of a sudden Dale picked up his feet at the mailbox gave himself another push and down the hill, he went.

Beloved, what are you thankful for today? I am thankful for my husband today. He is in Missouri getting our trailer fixed. This is the second attempt. He brought it home and the place that fixed the trailer after the accident didn’t check the heater and air conditioner.

Doug never complains yet he has had five back surgeries. He was a produce manager for Safeway and slipped in the cooler hurting his back. He remains active and when I was working he supported me by putting gas in the car, cleaning the house, washing my clothes, and cooking for me. He is one of the most humble men I know.

In 1 Samuel 16, we read about Jesse. Jesse is the father of David. Samuel comes to town to crown the next King. He has his orders from the Lord.

The Lord said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’ Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what to do. You are to anoint for me the one I indicate.” 1 Samuel 16:2b-3

Jesse shows him his sons, all of them except David. He then admits that he has another son in the field as a shepherd. Do you think that Jesse had a problem with favoritism? Who is the other man in the Bible that showed favoritism towards a son?

So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?”

“There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” 1 Samuel 16:11

David is sent for and becomes the anointed King. I am so thankful to my God that he loves us equally. He does not love you more than he loves me.

We love God because He first loved us. 1 John 4:16

I am thankful that God is love.

Randy, my oldest son, was the first to get his skates off and he ran down the street to see if his brother was okay. Thankfully Dale stopped and did not go into the street at the end of the private road and there were no cars coming at that time of the day. I didn’t know whether to spank him or hug him so I just hugged him. Then we discussed the rules.

Father God, thank you for my sons and my husband, the blessings of this family brings tears to my eyes. Lord, I pray for the women that are reading this help them to find what they are thankful for today? In Jesus name. Amen.

What attribute of God are you thankful for?
