    Psalm 119 W5D3

    W5D3

S Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.

O The Psalmist realizes that each day his life could end, he has the choice to obey God or do his own thing. However, he declares perhaps in the wee hours of the morning to not forget God’s law. He has grown up on God’s word, he is intimate with God’s word, declares it his heritage, his joy. He sets his heart on keeping God’s word every day for the rest of his life.

A Daily we have a choice to follow God or go our own way. If we run ahead of God, we will not end up at the destination God has determined. King David made some poor choices and so if he is the author he speaks from experience, how can you daily stay in God’s will? Are you memorizing God’s word? Are you investing in your children’s heritage by investing in a memory program for your child?  Is your heart set on keeping God’s commands? According to 1 John 1:9, “if you confess your sins He is faithful and just to forgive you of all unrighteousness.”

P Father God, I love you and I want to serve you daily. Forgive me where I have failed you. Lord, just yesterday, I did not tell the whole truth, why I made that choice. I took my life in my own hands at that moment, please forgive me. Lord my heart is set on serving you and keeping the promises that you have given me. Let your word be my heritage. Let me trust and obey and walk with you each day.

Beloved, have you ever felt as desperate as this Psalmist feels? Most likely Psalm 119 was written by David and we know many of the trials he endured. But, as I read these verses, I ponder the words: “I constantly take my life in my hands.” Was it because, the Psalmist was in danger he felt this way. Many of us will not suffer persecution for our faith but are you ready to give the reason for your hope if asked?
