    Unchanging

Visiting my father for two weeks twice a year for over forty years his routine is unchanging. Routine would be another word to describe his habits. His routine has intensified since his wife passed away eight years ago. Breakfast is the same sausage sandwich, dinner is at 11:30 and supper is at 3:30 ish. Supper was at 4:00 p.m. so I guess there is some variety in his schedule.  One could set their clocks by his routine.

Beloved just as my dad’s routine is unchanging, we have a God who is unchanging. Does that bring comfort to your heart? It does mine. I am so thankful that Jesus is there and He does not change. Beloved, are you thankful?

Hebrew 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

    “Unchanging”

    Great is Your faithfulness
    Great is Your faithfulness
    You never change
    You never fail, O God

    True are Your promises
    True are Your promises
    You never change
    You never fail, O God

So we raise up holy hands
    To praise the Holy One
Who was and is and is to come

Wide is Your love and grace
Wide is Your love and grace
    You never change
    You never fail, O God

    You were, You are
    You will always be

Beloved, God’s love is unchanging as we witness in this verse in Micah 7:8, “Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity And passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in unchanging love.”
Lastly, God’s nature is unchanging. He is not capable of being untrue to Himself. In Hebrews 6: 17-18 we read, “In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.”

God in His love for us did not change his mind and spare His son, in Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  Where would we be had he changed his mind? We would be without hope. Instead we have hope, in Romans 8:24, “For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?” and Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

You see beloved just as my father does not change his routine, God does not change, He is unchangeable and for that I am thankful. Beloved, How about you?
Father God, thank you that you do not change, you are the alpha the omega, the beginning the end. Thank you for giving us your Son and then when we accept Him, you forgive us as far as east is from west. You give us hope a hope that prevails. In Jesus Name, Amen
