    Voice

The singer enters and begins to sing with clarity, hitting perfectly tuned notes that match the words to a well-known song. Anticipation grows for the audience as the coaches are facing the audience not the person who is singing. Singing intensifies as the singer sings the notes; will the judge’s chair turn around. The voice is all the coaches have to judge the person, the notes are magnificent, the chairs one by one turn around. The judges then argue whom would be the best coach, the singer has made it through the audition phase all based on his or her voice. The show The Voice is a talent show where in the beginning the person sings and judging is on his or her singing voice not on the looks of the person.

God’s voice is a voice of truth. The voice of God is more beautiful than singers on the above reality show. God is known by His attributes. These attributes are aspects of truth about God. God is spirit. God is love. God is Truth.  His voice is heard by Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Abraham heard the voice of God when Abraham was tested and told to sacrifice Issac. Noah heard the voice of God to build an ark.  Moses was in the desert and saw a burning bush, the bush did not burn, and Moses heard God’s voice, “take off your sandals, you are standing on holy ground.” Samuel heard the voice of God but did not recognize the voice of God and went to the priest Eli, after the third time of hearing God’s voice, Eli instructed Samuel to listen to the voice of God. Elijah heard the “still small voice of God” after his dramatic meeting with the gods of Baal. Lastly, God’s voice echoed as John the Baptist baptized Jesus, “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

Just as God spoke to Adam and Eve, Abraham, Moses, and He speaks to us through His word. To hear God’s voice one must belong to God. We recognize God’s voice by a peace that surrounds us.

Isaiah 30:21 says, “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.”

Beloved, Jesus tells us in John 10:27, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”  I have a prayer journal with a section for listening to God. Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.”  Listening is hard for me, I hear God when I am reading the Bible. As I recall the promises of God, I can hear him calling me by name. He knows my name and He tells me I am fearfully and wonderfully made in Psalm 139:14. Sometimes, I write in that section, “Diana, I love you, you are my daughter.” There is power in the word of God it is sharper than any two edged sword. We have victory in our lives when we listen to the voice of God and use His word to take captive our thoughts as described in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.

Whose voice do you listen to? Do you hear God’s directions when you read His word? What verse in the bible is your promise of God’s Voice of Truth?

Father God, you gave us the Holy Spirit as a comforter, to pray for us when we do not know what to pray. You have given us Your word as a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We can be still before you and know that you are God. Lord, we need to hear you when we read your word. Help us Lord to hunger and thirst after your word. Lord, help me to always recognize your voice of truth, and may your voice be as sweet as the voice of those who can sing. Thank you for Jesus, your son who gave up his life so that I may have eternal life. I am in awe of your majesty Lord of your creation because even if there was not a word spoken, creation cries out your existence. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
