    Jesus gives: Abundant Life

What is the first bible verse that you learned? Most will say John 3:16 for me I learned a verse about sheep, Isaiah 53:6. Sunday school and Girl’s Auxiliary taught me most of the bible verses that I have memorized.

Jesus in John 10 speaks lovingly about sheep and the shepherd. Jesus is the Good Shepherd. Jesus gives us abundant life. We read this in John 10:10.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Beloved, we are sheep and he came to give us abundant life. What do we get in this abundant life? In John 10:7,  Jesus is the gate, he says anyone who enters through the gate will be saved, they will come and go and find pasture. We we enter that gate and accept Jesus as our Savior we gain eternal life. The good shepherd lays down his life for us so that we can have abundant life, forgiveness of sin, peace that passes all understanding. In John 10:14, the good shepherd knows us by name. He knows each one of us abundantly. Jesus says that we will listen to him so we will know his voice.

Father God, thank you for abundant life. Thank you for Jesus and for his life and for his willingness to leave heaven to come to earth so that I may have a savior because he gave his life for my sins. Forgive me where I fail you. Help me to love my life and to live it more abundantly. In Jesus name. Amen.
