Day 3: Five Minute Friday October Challenge: Wardrobe

Recently, I cleaned out my closet, I had a bucket that I gave clothes to an organization from my wardrobe. Cleansing of my closet brings the analogy of cleaning my heart. Confession necessary if we are to clothe ourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ in Romans 13:14 because how can we not gratify the desire of the flesh. The method of cleaning our heart found here in 1 Peter 5: 5-8

In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Dr. Neil Anderson says, “Humility is confidence properly placed.” God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble, James 4:6. Lysa Terkeurst in her book Uninvited on page 108 says anything that infuses us with humility is good. “Humility isn’t a place a weakness but rather a position that will come with honor and humility is an absolute requirement.”

Beloved, we have available  1 John 1 :9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”  Does your wardrobe include the following?

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3: 12-17

Father God Clothe me in your righteousness, let me always speak in love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

This took longer than five minutes to write.
