My pastor announced today that he is taking a three-month sabbatical a time of refreshment, reflection, and restoration. In Mark 6, Jesus sent the disciples out two by two with the power to save, heal, and cast out demons. In Mark 6:30-31, the apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and Jesus.

Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat. So they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone.

Jesus recognized rest is important. Disciples tired and needed a quiet place to rest awhile. Beloved, do not short change rest. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28, “”Come to me, all you who are  weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Just as my pastor needs a time of rest. A time where he can rest, plan, act and do. We all need to take time for our selves.

The rest ended as they landed the boat as we read in Mark 6: 34, “When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.”

Whether it is a nap on Sunday afternoon, or a planned sabbatical, resting is biblical. Beloved, do you need to schedule a time to rest?
