    3 Common Traps Satan Uses

Common’s definition occurring, found, or done often; prevalent–“salt and pepper are the two most common seasonings.” Satan easily traps us by common deceit.

We see the first common deception in Genesis 3 where the serpent talks to Eve.

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? Genesis 3:1.

The serpent plants the seed to question God. At this point in the conversation, the serpent tempts Eve to believe something other than what God had said.

It is common for people to misquote the Bible. One such common misquote: God helps those who help themselves. Another one “to thine own self be true.” Lastly, “Pride comes before a fall.”

The second way Satan tempts us by twisting God’s Words.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: Genesis 3: 4.

The third way Satan tempts us by idleness and discontent. We see this in the life of King David. He has stayed home from fighting and he sees from his rooftop Bathsheba bathing.

And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem. And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 2 Samuel 11: 1-2

So even though it’s common to be tempted by Satan, God always gives a way out.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Corinithians 10:13

So we do not have to question God’s Word, twist God’s Word, and give in to temptation.

Father God, You are the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. You have given the Holy Spirit so believers can be common by knowing and reading and doing what God’s word says. We do not have to experience Satan’s deceit. Beloved, will you know God’s word for yourself?

Describe a time when you were tempted by Satan’s common deception?
