    Do you make resolutions?

Making resolutions is something most people will do for the new year. How long do you think resolutions last or how long before people start breaking the resolutions? Lose weight, save money, change jobs, find a job, start exercising, train for a marathon, run a marathon, learn to crochet or learn to knit, publish a book.

Have you ever heard of because statements. Because statements place you as already accomplishing the goal. Therefore, you act as if you have met the goal.

For example: Because I exercise three days a week, I can walk a mile and half without being short of breath.

    Because I save $100 a pay-day, I have $1000 in the savings account.

Because I eat 1400 to 1600 calories a day, I am at goal weight of 135.

The statement lays out the plan, the goal is in the result. The because statement can be smaller or more descriptive.

For me resolutions never work when it came to weight loss. I joined Weight Watchers and gained weight. Yes, I gained weight. I did every diet from the cabbage soup to Weight Watchers. The Liquid Fast worked but when I would stop I would gain the weight back plus a few pounds more.

For me in 2012, I decided to turn my eyes upon Jesus and focus on Him and not the weight. Since 2012 with the help of my doctor, I have lost over one hundred pounds. You can read my story in “Your Life Still Counts.” I needed to find a balance and put food in a proper place. I used to live to eat now I eat to live.

Beloved, what are you struggling with? Perhaps it is smoking, alcohol, anger, depression, panic? As we approach the new year, what do you hope to cut or tame? Our emotions are God-given and with God’s help we can trust God with our emotions. A great book on depression is Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctors Personal Journey through Depression.

We do this by focusing our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Hebrews 12:2

In the past, some of my resolutions barely lasted a week, some lasted a day, what I did get a handle on this time is my food addiction. I crave God and not food. There is a great book called Made To Crave that explained food addiction. I finally know what the feeling of full. I made a rock solid decision to never over-eat again. Do you over-eat? To God be the glory we can honor God even with our eating. Because I eat until I am full and I do not overeat, I am at goal weight.
