Worry

Worry

Suzanne Ellers’ gave this writing prompt for #livefreeThursday. The prompt: Why worry? What is your biggest worry? How do you confront that worry?

My biggest worry is………………

How do you complete this statement? Is your biggest worry that you are not a good mother, wife, daughter? Or Is it that there is more month than money? Is your job at risk? Is your health at risk? Is there a strain in your relationships?

Beloved why do you worry? Why are you so anxious? I saw a sign in Oklahoma that said, “Worry is sin in disguise!”

Is it a sin to worry? This is a good question and deserves an answer. Each of us worry about different things at different times and to different degrees. Some of us worry to the point of causing illness, headaches, stomach ulcers. Some of us call worry a different name, like concern. I am concerned about my grades. I am concerned about having enough money to pay my bills.

Matthew 6: 25-34 is one of my favorite passages about worry.

25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your lifee ?

28“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Beloved, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. We are to give our cares and burdens to the Lord.

[Tweet “Praying is the best way to conquer worry. When you are worried have a serious conversation with God. “]

Count your blessings name them one by one. Give your worries to God one by one. Count your many blessings see what God has done.

And why do you worry about clothes- See

Wow what a great subject to write on. I think I could go on all day about how much I worry about things. Interestingly enough in my devotions this morning I read that worry is a sin. I’m like, “oh great”. So I am really trying not to worry even though I have been a worrier all of my life. I would worry about anything and everything. But I’m claiming victory over worrying now and I mean it! Thanks for sharing this wonderful post. God bless you always. ~Shannan

Think you for reminding us that “prayer is the best way to conquer worry.” Casting our cares on God releases the weight of carrying the burden ourselves. Something I have to remind myself constantly. Thanks for the encouragement!

Very nicely said. I’m not one to worry often, I try to remind myself of what’s important and not sweat the small stuff, My Mom used to say, sleep on it, everything looks better after a good nights sleep and a hot shower. Add prayer to that and you’re good to go.

Our blog walking today, gearing up for the a-z challenge, always nice to meet new bloggers.

Dear Sandy, I often find myself distraught by worry. So I always quote some portion of Mat 6 back to me. Like Diana you can not get any taller by worrying. Blessings Diana
