Ready or Not

Linking up with FMF: Hidden

I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11

The hidden things belong to the LORD our God, but the revealed things belong to us and our children forever, so that we may follow all the words of this law.”  Deuteronomy 29:29

With my face smashed upon the tree, I hear myself counting, “One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Ready of Not, Here I Come!” Hide and Seek a game that we play as children and I was the person having to find everyone, hoping that I would out master a few for a chance to hide. Hidden from everyone’s view a perfect hiding place and as a child it is a place to sneak off to–a quiet place to hide.

Have you ever played the game Hide and Seek? Do you remember waiting until the base was clear and running to touch base so you did not have to be the one to count?

A couple in the Bible who tried to hide from God. Do you know who that was? It was Adam and Eve after they had eaten the fruit. They realized they were naked and felt shame for the first time so they hid from God.

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” Genesis 3: 6-11

This is the wrong kind of hiding yet we all do this. Perhaps not in the literal sense of the word but we may not meet with God for devotions or we do not go to church or we have the opportunity to witness and we just do not witness.

The right kind of hidden is the kind where we are hiding his word in our hearts so that we do not sin against him. He has given us the Holy Spirit to enable us to do, say and work with the invisible living loving most holy God. Jesus is alive. God is at work among us.

What sins are you hiding?

Are you ready or not to serve him?

How are you doing with hiding God’s word in your heart?

This took longer than 5 minutes to write.
