Job 21

    Bible Study

    Wicked people prosper.

Have you ever wondered why bad people prosper? In chapter 20 verse 7 Job struggles with the wicked prospering and growing old and powerful. Then, Job admits that prosperity is from God. In chapter 21:13, “They spend their years in prosperity, and go down to the grave in peace.” Do you have any friends that are not Christians and they are doing well financially? Sometimes the wicked just prosper. Sometimes Christians struggle. Sometimes Christians prosper. I love the Message Bible, Job speaking says, “But who are we to tell God how to run his affairs?” He’s dealing with matters that are way over our heads.”

Beloved, don’t you feel like you are in a boxing match with Rocky Balboa? Eliphaz attacks Job in chapter 22 this is the third round. Eliphaz tells Job he is a first-class moral failure because there’s no end to your sins. Don’t you want to shout, Eliphaz, who do you think you are? Bilad and Eliphaz are trying greater that every to prove that Job is a sinner. Eliphaz accuses him of robbing the poor. In verses 21-30, Job is asked to repent and Eliphaz assumes that Job is very wicked.

Job (aka Rocky Balboa) just wants to find God when we read chapter 23. Job knows that God would listen to him and give him a fair fight..

But he knows where I am going.

And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.

    For I have stayed on God’s paths;

I have followed his ways and not turned aside.

I have not departed from his commands,

but have treasured his words more than daily food.

But once he has made his decision, who can change his mind?

Whatever he wants to do, he does.

So he will do to me whatever he has planned.

He controls my destiny. Job 23: 10-14

Beloved, God controls our destiny. Good and bad thing happen to good and bad people. God is good all the time and all the time God is good.

    God controls our destiny. T/F
Where did Rocky Balboa live and train?
What was the last thing you failed at?
When do you plan to retire?
How do you explain to someone when bad things are happening to them and they want to blame God?

    January 9, 1017 reading is Job 24-28

Father God, we know that you are good all the time and all the time you are good. I do not always understand when prosperity occurs and the people seem to not love you. Thank you for the lessons we are learning in Job that he was a good man and he passed the test, that it is okay to question you, that sometimes you are silent, that you are God. Thank you for our Redeemer Jesus. Amen
