    Whispers

God whispers learn, I discover three ways to increase learning.

God whispers you learn; I discover three ways to increase learning.

Have you tried to memorize scripture? The older I get, the harder it is for me to learn new tricks. For example, the verses I have memorized are from when I was a child. Now I rely on BibleGateway.com to find a verse because I do not always know the words. Sometimes, it is the scripture, according to Diana.

Yesterday, I shared how I interviewed and was hired for a new position. After twenty-years in home health, I returned to the hospital to work. As a case manager, my role was to assist the physicians and to plan safe discharges. My advantage in this new role was my knowledge of home health. Since many were returning to their homes when discharged from the hospital. However, my learning curve was steep as a mountain to be climbed when discharging patients to other venues such as a nursing home. But God whispered, you can do this; you can learn a new job.

    Bible Story

Noah, in Chapter 6 of Genesis, has found favor with God. Read with me these verses.

And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

Then God gave directions, a blueprint if you will.

And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. Genesis 6: 14-17 KJV.

Noah most likely never built anything before since most cultivated the land as an occupation.

He had to learn a new skill. God whispered to Noah; you can build an ark.

Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments. Psalm 119: 73.

Three ways to increase your learning.

    1. Make sure you pray before you begin a new task.
    2. Make sure distractions are few, ask questions if you need clarification.
    3. Make sure you rest the night before.

For my new job, I prayed daily for wisdom as I began my day at work. As far as distractions went when I met with the patients, I did my best to listen to their questions. There were times when the discharge was complicated, and so I sought help.

For example, one sweet lady fell and broke her leg; she was here from another state. I learned all about travel insurance and how if one has travel insurance, many things are covered, like transportation to the airport.

I learned lab values and how certain medications might impact the discharge. I learned to be bold as an advocate for the patient. If they did not have a safe release, I would advocate why a delay was necessary.

During this time of learning a new job, I cared for myself by eating right and getting enough rest to retain the information I was learning.

My new job became the one I retired from in 2017. Every day was a new day, and I learned so much from my patients, coworkers, and supervisors.

Beloved, God whispers, “I am with you in all that you do.”

Whether you eat or you drink, whatever you do, do it to the glory of the Lord. 1 Corinthians 10:31.

    Conclusion

As far as learning scripture, the best way to memorize verses is to write on an index card and practice saying the words aloud.

The best way to learn a new job is to remain humble. What might God be whispering to you today?

What are you challenging yourself to learn?
