    Turn The Other Cheek

Has someone hurt your feelings? Have you been the bigger person and turned the other cheek? Where did that saying come from?

Turning the other cheek is a phrase in Christian doctrine from the Sermon on the Mount that refers to responding to injury without revenge and allowing more injury.

    Psalm 35

    Thoughts

This is another Psalm that shares prophecy on Jesus. In verse eleven, we read

False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not. Psalm 35:11.

This is fulfilled in Mark 14:57-59

And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying, We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. But neither so did their witness agree together.

Jesus was hated without a cause. Read Psalm 35:19 and John 15:25.

I am sure that the teaching of turning the other cheek is not a popular teaching today.

Another way of saying, take the high road. The Psalmist is pleading his cause.

Do you have a cause to fight for or to ask God to fight for you? Sometimes turning the other cheek is all we can do.

Jesus finally answers the priest in Mark 14, I am He. A simple answer to a profound question.

Father God, let there be peace in the world and let it begin with me.

Who is God asking you to forgive?
