Traveling to my childhood home filled with anticipation, today I will see four childhood friends. Each of these wonderful girls have grown into faithful God-fearing women. There is a song by Miranda Lambert “The House That Built Me”, explains how I feel about the house on Fifth Avenue in Dodge City, Kansas. Beloved, do you remember your childhood home?
So much fun as a child, I loved riding my bicycle, putting on talent shows, going to school, and sleeping over at a friend’s house. Accepting the Lord as my Savior when I was eleven, I can remember sitting on the front porch reading the Bible, “In the beginning God created the heavens and earth.” Oh how I love Jesus, I answered that knock at my door and it brings me much comfort that I am saved by grace.
Comfort comes from the touch of another person. Beloved, Jesus gave comfort to the blind man, the paralytic man, the woman with the issue of blood, and the woman at the well. He comforted his disciples by appearing to them after His death on the cross. He promised to send a Comforter that indwells each believer who believes in Jesus Christ as Savior.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: John 15:26
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. John 16:7
“Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized witha water, but in a few days you will be baptized withb the Holy Spirit.” Acts 1: 4-5
The believers received the Holy Spirit as a comforter. Beloved, the Holy Spirit comforts us. Just as going to my childhood home will bring me comfort, daily as I seek to serve Jesus I hope that you will receive the comfort that only God can give.
