Fear defined as a noun-an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. As a verb the definition-an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. Beloved, have you suffered from fear? My role as an Encourager in the Freedom Ministry at my church helps women overcome fear. Because according to 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.’ My fear begins when my son was a little boy and he has seizures with fever. When did your fear begin? What are your fears? King David faces his fears in Psalm 56.

David has fled to Gath, this is enemy territory, home to the Philistines. David counts on Saul not following him to Gath. He feels safest in enemy territory. Wendy Pope presents in her study Trusting God for a Better Tomorrow-A Study of Psalms that David the giant killer, warrior,  king, dealing with fear.

He declares his trust in God in verses three and four. Beloved, do you love these verses?

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?

To avoid becoming a victim of fear, one must admit that she is afraid. Take this fear to God, renounce the fear, announce the truth that God did not give you a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Then walk in the truth that you can trust God.

David gives his fears to God and releases his worries that his words twisted, his character attacked his life threatened, he’s weary and tired. He asks God to catch his tears and to make a record of his tears. David declares that he trust God in verse ten and eleven. In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid.

My son grew out of his seizures and there were other things that tugged at this mother’s heart that caused fear. Now there are grandchildren to pray for safety. I prefer to trust God and have concerns instead of fear and worry. Being in God’s word daily helps with this process. David must have journal his prayers which must have brought him peace as it does us as we will work our way through the Psalms.

Beloved, do you trust God, then give Him your fears.

I remember when my mom was very sick, and i said that “I was scared,” you told me to replace the word fear or scared with concern. I have not forgotten those words, and now I choose to say that “something concerns me,” rather than “I am scared, or I fear.”

Just another reason. I love you and look up to you! You are such an inspiration to me! ❤
