4 Points on Psalm 119: 32-41

Introduction

Do you count on God’s mercies? I count on His mercies being new every day as promised in Lamentations 3. Daily with headaches, I put one foot in front of the other. What challenges are you facing?

Psalm 119:41

Scripture

Read with me Psalm 119: 34-41

Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.

36 Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.

37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.

38 Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.

39 Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good.

40 Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.

41 Let thy mercies come also unto me, O Lord, even thy salvation, according to thy word.

So,

In this portion of Psalm 119, we see the Psalmist asking God several requests. The first request in verse 34 is to give me an understanding of God’s word. Oh, how I long to understand God’s word. He gives us wisdom in reading and applying God’s word.

Secondly, to go where God wants me to go. We can pray to be in God’s will and He promises in Proverbs to direct our steps.

A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps. Proverbs 16:9.

Thirdly, we have a plea to incline our hearts so we do not covet what we do not have. In Psalms,

But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity: redeem me, and be merciful unto me. Psalm 26:11.

as we walk with the Lord, we are redeemed.

Fourth reading in Psalm 119 verse 38 is the request to establish the Word in us so we are not fearful.

We respect God, He is to be feared out of respect but we do not have to fear life.

Lastly, we come to back to the mercies, His mercies are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness.

It is of the Lord‘s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Lamentations 3: 22-23

Beloved, let’s read God’s word and walk in His ways.
