Adventures on the dusty road includes prayer

Beloved, how are you today? Are you casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you?

Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Pray

When you pray, do you pray for yourself? In Matthew 6, Jesus gives us some instructions about prayer. He tells us to not be like hypocrites who pray trying to impress people on street corners or in our church but to go away by yourself. shut the door behind you, and pray to the Father in private. And when you pray don’t babble on, pray like this: Matthew 6: 9-13.

Our Father in heaven,
your name be honored as holy.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.[d]
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And do not bring us into[e]temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.[f]

He shares about forgiveness, fasting and not storing up treasures on earth. An important thought where your treasure is–there the desire of your heart will be. Lastly in Matthew 6, we can not serve two masters.

Psalm 7

A short reflection on Psalm 7, King David wrote this Psalm as a song. He sings–I come to you Lord for protection, O Lord, my God, Save me from my persecutors, rescue me. David was a shepherd, and a warrior, in addition to being a King. He was on the run from Saul and even his family was against him.  He declares that God is the only honest judge. At the end of the Psalm, David thanks God, I will thank the Lord because he is just, I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

When difficulties overwhelm you, forgiveness is an avenue to travel on the dusty road. Is it pain? fatigue, work concerns? Another way to overcome is to sing your favorite hymns or praise songs.

Lastly, Psalm 7 is a reminder to me to write our prayers, P=praise, A=Admission, R=Request, T=Thanksgiving.

Tomorrow we begin our readings again in the Old Testament–Genesis 12-13. I will share my reflections tomorrow on that reading.

Reflection

As we look back at last week, Moses wrote the book of Genesis. The measurement of the day was from evening to morning. Why, did the Spirit hover over the dark waters of the earth? This is the Holy Spirit helping to preserve what was created and what would be created. How could God create the earth and water from nothing? God created everything that existed, God did the creating. In Genesis 2, the world is still perfect, man is different from the animals because of the breath of life, the soul. As a nurse, when God breathed into man, it was the first CPR.  The Garden of Eden was probably in either Mesopotamia or an area farther north of modern day Turkey. In Genesis 3, sin enters the world and we see temptation interrupt a good thing. God provides clothes for Adam and Eve and leaves the Garden of Eden with them. In Genesis 4, family strife culminates and sin at its ugliest, the first murder, Adam and Eve have another son Seth. In Chapter 5, the family line advances to Noah and Noah becomes a father of three boys. In Chapter 6, wickedness is at a all time high, God decides to establish a covenant with Noah’s family. Noah is told to build an Ark. Genesis 7, salvation occurs and Noah’s family is saved. The rain and flood comes. Genesis 8, the great escape, the release of everyone from the Ark. Genesis 9, we see the promise of the rainbow, never will the world be destroyed by a flood again and we see sin enter right back into the world. Genesis 10, the Table of Nations as we look at the descendants of Noah. Genesis 11, God intervenes and mixes up the language and we are introduced to Abraham. This ends scene 1.

Remember your new reading is Genesis 12-13.

Today, on the dusty road is another day of self care. A time to read and pray. We are bracing for a snow storm. What are you doing today?

Father God, be with us on our journey. You are the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. Help us to serve you. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
