Beloved, walking with God–difficult at times; what is the definition of the yoke? It is not our word today. Our word today is ease. Ease is in the Bible twenty-four times, and easy is in the Bible four times. Do you remember the commercial one of the stores had with the button? My boss has an EASY button in her office. But who am I kidding? Sometimes life is not easy. The definition of ease is the absence of difficulty or effort.
In biblical times, a yoke was a wooden crosspiece that was fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plow or cart they were to pull. As the animals walked together, it was easier for them to accomplish tasks such as plowing a field.
The verse in Matthew 11: 28-30 is a promise that we can bring our burdens to Jesus. He is gentle and humble, and we will find rest in Him.
King David’s Prayer
I thought of King David and what prayer we needed to do: Psalm 23 today.
The Lord is my shepherd,
I [a]shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside [b]quiet waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He guides me in the [c]paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the [d]valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no [e]evil, for You, are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You [f]have anointed my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
6 [g]Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will [h]dwell in the house of the Lord [i]forever.
Prayer
Father God, create in me a clean heart, search me, and see if I have any anxiety or worry. Thank you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Lord, I will fear no evil today, for you are with me. Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me today in Jesus’s name. Amen.
