God Whispers: Awe, five reasons we need to praise God

AWE!

Have you ever seen a beautiful sunrise or sunset that filled you with wonder and “awe?” We recently moved to our new home, and we overlook a pasture of hay. We have seen two bald eagles, deer, horses, and soon we will have cows grazing. What takes your breath away? Do you remember the first time you saw your child? What other things fill you with “awe?”

AWE, Splendor, God is worthy of our praise.

A definition of awe is a feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder. Awe in the Bible is part of the word awesome, found 53 times. I did find this verse in Psalm,

“The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.” Psalm 65:8. KJV.

Beloved, words such as wonder, amazement, astonishment, and admiration are similar to the word awe.

God whispers, Awe!

Five Reasons To Praise God

1. He is God.
2. He created the world.
3. He is love.
4. He gave us his son so that we are redeemed.
5. He blesses us.

He is God

Beloved, reason number one to praise God is that He is God. He is the only one that deserves our praise.

“Who among the gods is like you, Lord? Who is like you— majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?” Exodus 15:11. KJV.

Moses asks, who among the gods is like you, Lord? Moses writes in Deuteronomy.

“He is the one you praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes.” Deuteronomy 10:21 NIV.

He is Creator

Without God, we would not exist; in Genesis 1, we read about the world’s creation.

“Is this the way you repay the Lord, you foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you?” Deuteronomy 32:6 NIV.

He is Love

Ponder this sweet friend, God is love, and God’s Word confirms He is love: I am in awe of His love.

“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:8. NIV.

He Gave

Beloved, we are sinners, sin entered the world through Adam and Eve, but God redeemed us through the plan of salvation. Jesus gave his life, while we were still sinners, to pay the penalty of our sins.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16. NIV.

God whispers: I gave you my son, accept my redemption.

He Blesses

God blesses us with His promises and His faithfulness.

“Know therefore that the Lord your GodisGod; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.” Deuteronomy 7:9, NIV

Conclusion

Beloved, so many reasons to be filled with “awe” at the mention of God’s name and attributes. He is with us all the time. He asks us to love and serve Him daily. Will you start your day with praise?

“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,” Deuteronomy 10: 12. NIV
