Jonah, Week 1. Day 5

Introduction

I retired from nursing however, I still think critically. My critical judgment was a tool that I used as a nurse. I prayed daily when I worked that I would not miss any clue that would help me to discern the best outcome for the patient. Yesterday, in Jonah 1: 13-17 that God prepared a big fish to gobble Jonah. Only Jonah was not gobbled, the fish is a miracle as it saves Jonah’s life. You see the men tried their best to get to shore in the boat. But their only choice, throw Jonah overboard to save their lives. John McArthur shares in his study Bible there are ten miracles in the book of Jonah,

  1. 1:4 “the Lord sent out a great wind on the sea”
  2. 1:7 “the lot fell on Jonah”
  3. 1:15 “the sea ceased from its raging”
  4. 1:17 “the Lord had prepared a great fish”
  5. 1:17 “to swallow Jonah (alive)”
  6. 2:10 “the Lord spoke to the fish…it vomited Jonah onto dry land”
  7. 3:10 “God saw their works…they turned from their evil way”
  8. 4:6 “the Lord God prepared a plant”
  9. 4:7 “God prepared a worm”
  10. 4:8 “God prepared a vehement east wind”

Jonah, Week 1, Day 5

Reading and Assignment

Hebrews 4: 12-13, SOAP Hebrews 4:13

Scripture

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Observation

God sees everything, we are naked before Him.

Application

We cannot run from God. He sees our every action, hears our every thought, knows our hearts. He created us in our mother’s womb, he has given us a number of days to live, he knows how many hairs on our head. Will you daily give your life to God?

Prayer

Father God, You are the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. You tell us in Your Word that we are created in Your Image, that we are Your children, that you catch our tears, and that you know the hairs on our head, and the number of days we can serve you. Lord, may my life be a testimony of your love, forgive me for when I fail you. In Jesus name, Amen.

Conclusion

Today we read in the blog at Love God Greatly the reasons we can’t run from God. He is omniscient, an all-knowing God. Just as Adam and Eve tried to hide in the garden, God said, where are you? He knew where they were, beloved, he knows where you are. God loves you and will not allow you to be away from him long. He will woo you back one way or another. You are the apple of His eye. God is just and His justice will not allow you to run from him. We are justified in Christ Jesus. In my critical judgment, the truth is Beloved, God loves you, yes you.

Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings, Psalm 17:8.
