PanicGive me the prese

Mark 4: 35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

39He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

The disciples are terrified. The waves are huge, the skies are dark. They wake up Jesus, they are frightened. Who do you turn to when you are filled with panic and fear?

I have a book, Prayers To Move Your Mountains and one of my favorite entries is titled, “Control for Panic”

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

Lord God, when everything in my life goes according to plan, walking by faith and waiting upon You isn’t so difficult. But right now the temptation to move ahead of You is great. The suddenness of this storm propels me to react out of desperation rather than faith. I know that responding in panic and moving ahead of You only leads me out of Your blessing and into poverty and sin. But everything within me screams do something Now. By your mercy and grace show me that by jumping ship I am only diving into the turbulent and uncertain waters below. You have not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. During this moment of distress I need an infusion of Your power and reaffirmation of Your steadfast love. Please bring to a halt the furious thoughts that race in my head. Give me the presence of mind to be still and know that You are God.

Jesus rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet Be Still.” What storm is in your life that is causing you to panic? Will you turn to Jesus?

Give Jesus your fears.  Blessings
