Introduction

The Psalmist declares that he has put his hope in God’s Word. Beloved, what is your hope based on? Read the following scripture with me.

Scripture

My soul faints with longing for your salvation,
    but I have put my hope in your word.
⁸² My eyes fail, looking for your promise;
    I say, “When will you comfort me?”
⁸³ Though I am like a wineskin in the smoke,
    I do not forget your decrees.
⁸⁴ How long must your servant wait?
    When will you punish my persecutors?
⁸⁵ The arrogant dig pits to trap me,
    contrary to your law.
⁸⁶ All your commands are trustworthy;
    help me, for I am being persecuted without cause.
⁸⁷ They almost wiped me from the earth,
    but I have not forsaken your precepts.
⁸⁸ In your unfailing love preserve my life,
    that I may obey the statutes of your mouth.

My Thoughts,

In the previous verses, there was an affliction and the Psalmist is now declaring his dependence on God.

Do you depend on God? When was the last time you spoke to God? How much time are you spending reading the word of God?

The Psalmist declares that all of God’s promises are trustworthy.

All your commands are trustworthy;
help me, for I am being persecuted without cause. Psalm 119: 86.

Beloved, do you believe that all of God’s commands are trustworthy. Trust is one on God’s attributes.

Then we see the Psalmist declare that in God’s unfailing love, his life is preserved. His only plan is to obey God’s precepts.

Beloved, we can’t obey God’s precepts if we are not reading and memorizing His word. If we daily read, and meditate on His Word, then memorizing comes so much easier.

To memorize God’s word, write out the scripture several times. Flash cards are a wonderful aide.

Lastly, read God’s love letter, know what it says, let it rule your life.

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Colossians 3:16

Father God, thank You for Your word. May we read and apply Your word to our lives. Nothing is too great for You. May Your word dwell in each one of us.
