28 Day

Skulk a group of foxes-Crazy word to build a post.

Beloved, today was an odd day at work. First, I was asked to read one of my devotionals. Writing a devotional from a word is challenging, and today is one of those days. First, I had never heard the phrase skulk before. Have you? So Barbie, my friend who does my graphics, chose the noun to make the illustration and skulk have two meanings.

As a noun, a skulk is a group of foxes. Fox is in the Bible ten times. And the meaning of skulk, as a verb, means keep out of sight, typically with a sinister or cowardly motive. Cowardly is in the Bible one time. We all know the saying, “sly as a fox,” and I think of this as “crafty.” We know this as Satan; remember Eve’s encounter.

Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” Genesis 3:1

Yet, we know Jesus used a fox to illustrate a point the Pharisees.

Beloved, Jesus, in the Luke passage, proclaimed he would be crucified. He also shared in Luke 9: 58, “And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”  Jesus and King David had much in common.

Read

Read with me Psalm 67

In this Psalm, we read about foxes. However, King David rejoiced in God.

King David

O God, You are my God; I shall seek You [b]earnestly;
My soul thirsts for You, my flesh [c]yearns for You,
In a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.
Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips will praise You.
So I will bless You as long as I live;
I will lift my hands in Your name.
My soul is satisfied as with [d]marrow and fatness,
And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.

When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches,
For You have been my help,
And in the shadow of Your wings, I sing for joy.
My soul clings [e]to You;
Your right hand upholds me.

But those who seek my [f]life to destroy it,
Will go into the [g]depths of the earth.
10 [h]They will be [i]delivered over to the power of the sword;
They will be a [j]prey for foxes.
11 But the king will rejoice in God;
Everyone who swears by Him will glory,
For the mouths of those who speak, lies will be stopped.

Pray with me

Father God, Create in me a clean heart, search me and see if there is any anxiety or worry in me. Thank you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Help me recognize any evil schemes and cling to the joy I have in you. May I meditate on Your Word today as I sing for joy? In Jesus’s name. Amen.

What fox is causing problems in your den?
