31 Day Writings

The mighty hand of God, glorious power–daily his power sustains us in many ways.

The mighty hand of God, glorious power–daily, his power sustains us in many ways.

Living here in Missouri, the lightning and thunderstorms are pretty profound. The sky lights up, and thunder shakes the house, awakening us up out of a sound sleep. The lightning, as beautiful and terrifying as it is, demonstrates God’s magnificent power profoundly. Lightning can start a fire or strike and cause harm. We often hear of lightning strikes and the damage they can cause, and yet we look to the sky as lightning can dance, mesmerize, and create within us awe at the glimpse at God’s beauty.

Power

Power is in the Bible 263 times, and one definition is the ability to act or produce an effect.

Another verse on power in Psalms,

Be exalted, O Lord, in Your own strength! We will sing and praise Your power. Psalm 21:13.

When I think of God’s power, I feel small. But, glimpsing at God’s Beauty, I am overwhelmed by His goodness, and I stand in awe of His power. By speaking, He spoke foundations of the world into existence, creating you and me to live at this time.

Because of His power, we defeat fear and acknowledge that He is the author and creator of the universe.

Who established the mountains by His strength, Being clothed with power. Psalm 65:6.

He caused an east wind to blow in the heavens; And by His power He brought in the south wind. Psalm 78:6

Love

Yet, by His power, we are redeemed because He raised Jesus from the dead. We read in Romans 5 that while we were still sinners, Christ demonstrated His love for us and died and rose to give us eternal life. Thus, those of us who ask Jesus to be our Savior have resurrection power. Power to defeat the sin that sometimes entangles us, ability to live a life for Christ, power to defeat Satan’s influence, strength to tell others of Jesus’s love.

Nevertheless He saved them for His name’s sake, That He might make His mighty power known. Psalm 106:8.

What a glorious day it will be when we see Jesus face to face. When we acknowledge Jesus as Lord, we have power over sin.

[Tweet “Power over sin is our inheritance because of Jesus’s redemptive work on the cross.”]

Daily, when we pray and read God’s Word, we experience a life-giving resource of strength and dignity. Yes, we are His beautiful children. Will you join me daily to reflect on God’s power?

Father God, thank you for the glimpse of your goodness. You created the heavens and earth, lightning, thunder, rain, and each one of us. May we be a reflection of Your beauty. In Jesus’s name. Amen.

Will you acknowledge Jesus as Lord over your life?
