Trust and Obey–No Other Way

Trust and Obey-No Other Way

When I was a teenager, several friends and I played a game that was not the smartest thing to do, but we would squat down, stand up fast, then falling backward into the arms of a friend. A sign of Trust. We never hurt one another. We always caught each other. Much as one sees a child jumping into the arms of a father, the child trust that the dad will catch them.

A hymn I learned as a teenager, Trust, and Obey. When we trust and obey, there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.

Trust

Our word today is Trust. The definition of Trust is a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. Trust is in the Bible is 186 times. Read with me this famous verse.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3: 5-6.

So why is fear so much a part of our lives? The Psalmist declares the truth in this verse in Psalm.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.” Psalm 56: 3.

The lyrics of the song say it.

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Then in fellowship, sweet, we will sit at His feet.
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way.
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Oh, Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Songwriter: John H. Sammis
Beloved, we do not have to fear when we trust God. While I drive to work, I listen to sermons, and recently I heard a man add, however, to renounce lies we believe.
I am afraid I will fail; however, I know that I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.

Conclusion

Just as I trusted my friends to catch me, I know I can trust God.
When we trust God, obedience is a natural outpouring of our love for God.
Father God, You are trustworthy. Let me walk in obedience, rejoicing. Let me grow in grace celebrating in the gift of salvation. Yes, I trust You. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
Where do you need to trust God?
