What do I lack?

Introduction

Five Minute Friday, a time to write for five minutes on a word. Then join with amazing writers. Today the word is lack.

What do I Lack?

Scripture

Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?

21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

My Thoughts,

Our treasures on this earth comprise of whatever we hold dearly, close to our hearts. Some of my treasured possessions are my pictures of my family and friends, my Bibles, my books, and my dad’s outlined sermon messages and my dad’s Bible.

However, I lack nothing. I have the love of my husband, family, and friends. In the above verses, we have a young man asking the question to Jesus, “What lack I yet?”

Jesus tells him to sell and to give to the poor. Beloved, what are you holding so tightly? I do have to admit that I love books and Bibles so I hold on hoping to have a house someday to be able to sit in a room and read, write, and pray. But there is nothing holding me back to do those things where I currently live because I lack nothing.

Conclusion,

Father God, your invitation is to come and follow you, may I treasure you and being with you above the things of this world? May I seek you first above all the things? May I realize in the big scheme that I lack nothing because of the love of Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

What do you need to give up in order to lack nothing?
