28 Days of Loving God – Day 24

Beloved, our word is unexpected.

Unexpected is in the Bible two to three times–Unexpected’s definition is the opposite of expecting or not expected or regarded as likely to happen.

As a case manager in the hospital, my day is filled with unexpected events.

Recently, I met a man who sings gospel music and his wife gave me a CD of his music. Or the day I made my grandmother’s pumpkin pie, and I won the pie contest at work. I have so many stories.

For something to be unexpected, we have certain expectations. Job had a perfect life, a perfect family, a perfect career, a perfect house, a perfect wife, and perfect health. He loved and praised God. However, Satan went to God and asked the unexpected to prove that Job only loved God because of the blessings. Spoiler alert Satan doesn’t win; Job trusts God through trials.

From this passage in Job 5: 8-16, we see that please read with me from the message about unexpected blessings.

“If I were in your shoes, I’d go straight to God,
I’d throw myself on the mercy of God.
After all, he’s famous for great and unexpected acts;
there’s no end to his surprises.
He gives rain, for instance, across the wide earth,
sends water to irrigate the fields.
He raises up the down-and-out,
gives firm footing to those sinking in grief.
He aborts the schemes of conniving crooks,
so that none of their plots come to term.
He catches the know-it-alls in their conspiracies—
all that intricate intrigue swept out with the trash!
Suddenly they’re disoriented, plunged into darkness;
they can’t see to put one foot in front of the other.
But the downtrodden are saved by God,
saved from the murderous plots, saved from the iron fist.
And so the poor continue to hope,
while injustice is bound and gagged.

Job’s friends advised Job to go to God and ask for mercy. I loved turning to God when unexpected events happen is the best place to go.

Unexpected trials, pray.

Unexpected blessings, thank God.

Father God, thank you for being with us in the unexpected in Jesus’s name. Amen
