Beloved, our word is “word.” Word’s definition as a noun is a single distinct meaningful element of speech or writing, used with others (or sometimes alone) to form a sentence and typically shown with a space on either side when written or printed. Word is in the Bible over 1200 times.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1: 1.
Sermon
Sweet friend, listening to Dr. David Jeremiah this morning, and as usual, I was challenged to encourage another person with what he said and what I learned. So, the word has two definitions in biblical terms. When looking at the Word of God as a whole, it is “logos.” In the New Testament, the phrase “Word (Logos) of God,” found in John 1:1 and elsewhere, shows God’s desire and ability to “speak” to the human. Hence, our verse in John 1:1

Bible
So the whole Bible is “Logos.” Conversely, the second meaning of the word that Dr. Jeremiah discussed is “rhema.” This is where my ears perked up this morning. What is rhema?
it is a divinely inspired impression upon your soul, a flash of thought or a creative idea from God. It is conceived in your spirit, but birthed into your natural understanding by divine illumination. A true rhema carries with it a deep inner assurance and witness of the Spirit.”
Rhema is the profound word that we carry with us. So if I had the click to tweet button, I would tweet that–the profound words of God we carry with us.
And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6: 17
The words of God are the nuggets we carry with us. The words that fight Satan, the words that encourage, the words that enlighten others, not the whole Bible, just the most important verses. Beloved, the most important verses.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. John 3-16-17.
Sword
Beloved, the words of God we have memorized are the swords we use to fight off doubts and fears. So it is not the whole word of God, it is not the logos word of God, it is the particular verse, the rhema, the promises you claim when you are scared, lonely, hurting, or need to feel his love.
I think of verses Jeremiah 31:3, ” You are loved with an everlasting love.” or Psalm 139:14, “You are fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Prayer
Father God, thank you for your word and thank you for those that minister to my soul. For the woman who is hurting, will you reassure her? For the person struggling in school, will you ease their burden? For anyone with struggles that only you can help, let them turn to you. Please help us memorize your word as a priority. In Jesus’s name. Amen
In conclusion, God’s word is sweeter than honey from a honeycomb. If you have never spent time in Psalm 119, it is all about the word of God. Beloved, friend, we have to hide it in our hearts. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Yes, this is the longest Psalm but an important one about learning God’s word.
