Good morning, beloved friends, we have had many deer on our property this week. The hay was cut and the bales removed, so the hayfield is green and so inviting. I love when the deer stop, look up, turn their heads, in anticipation of the sounds they hear. They move oh so swiftly– jumping and clearing fences as if there were none.
The magnificence of creation brings awe and wonder. The tribute of creation can only go to the creator our wonderful God. By definition God is Spirit. He is infinite, eternal, and unchangeable, in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth. We read in Genesis 1 the creation story. Genesis 1:1 say, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” We read in Psalm 100: 3
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his[a];
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Teaching
As promised, highlights from another one of Dr. David Jeremiah’s books. The book title is– The God You May Not Know. In Chapter 1 Knowing The God You Worship, Dr. Jeremiah reflects on a place where he goes to be alone to think and pray. Although he doesn’t share the location in the East County of San Diego, my friends hike the area and there are many serene places. We have a nice place here between Mansfield and Ava, a roadside park. He considers this place holy ground. God’s creation can be magnificent. Personally, where I sit and type, I overlook this beautiful hay field, my porch could be considered holy ground.
We find rest in God, kinship as stated in Psalm 62.
Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him. Psalm 62:5
Dt. Jeremiah states, “Nothing compares with getting to know the God who knows us and He seeks to be known.” We are to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lod and Savior Jesus Christ as stated in 2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.”
Dr. David Jeremiah writes on knowing the God you worship it must be
- our priority
- our dignity
- our maturity
- our authority
- our humility
Is knowing God your determined purpose and priority? Dr. Jeremiah says getting to know God is no different than knowing another person. He said to develop a friendship one has to spend time becoming better acquainted. This was a statement in his book that got me. “We can only worship someone we love and we can only love someone we know. Beloved to know God better is to be in His word, writing His word, studying his word. Honoring who God is through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Knowing God is a key to our self-esteem and dignity. Our self-image should be rooted in our Creator who made us in His image. Our maturity is our growth in the Lord. We grow as we read the Bible and as we pray and trust. Lastly, knowing God leads to our authority and humility. We have all authority under heaven because of God and yet we have to remain humble. God gives grace to the humble.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:5-7
Dusty Road
Beloved, as a child, I played Sunday school with my friends, I have never not loved God. I knew as an eleven-year-old that I was a sinner and needed a savior asking Jesus to be my savior at camp. Jesus met me under the tree in Hardesty, Oklahoma. God ordains our path, our dusty roads. This weekend I prayed for a family who’s loved one had passed away but was donating her organs, her life was going to bless others, her family was grieving. In the end, they said to me, thank you, the hospital should have more employees like you. A simple prayer–a God ordained meeting. What is God asking you to do? How can you know Him better today?
Conclusion
Father God, thank you for the adventures on the dusty road. Thank you for your son and the Holy Spirit and the Word so that we may know you. Thank you for the written word, for family, friends and those I meet on the dusty road. Thank you for creation and its splendor. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
