I am free from any charges against me.

I was driving in San Diego and I had my first assignment as a home health nurse. I was thinking about how to catheterize a patient and not paying attention to my speed. I was in the process of slowing down and changing lanes when I looked up to see the lights of the highway patrol. “Do you know how fast you were going?”

One of the statements in Who I am In Christ is that we are free of any charges against us. This is found in Romans 8: 31-35. As I continue to study God’s word I am in awe of what these verses say.

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

If God is for us, who can be against us? God in His love for us did not spare His own son, Jesus, the perfect sacrifice because He lived a sin free life. Often I forget that if God is for me who can be against me. You see, beloved, we have a sin nature within us and sometimes this sin nature wins out. Struggling can be daily, am I jealous, am I easily angered, am I spending time with God?

God justifies us. Justification a gift from God is known to you or explained as just as if I had not sinned.  The next question is who then condemns us. Beloved, Satan is the accuser of the brethren. We have a devil according to 1 Peter 5:8 that prowls around seeking to devour us.

Jesus who died for us and was raised to life is at the right hand of God. Beloved, Jesus intercedes for us, he prays for us. Nothing can separate from the love of God. Yes, I am free of any condemning charge because Jesus paid the price for my sins. Beloved, do you know Jesus as your savior?

That day I was speeding, I was guilty and the fine that I paid was the consequence of the speeding. By paying the fine, I was no longer guilty. Did I learn my lesson? At the time of my crime, the speed limit was 55 and I was doing 80. Yes, I learned my lesson and now I only do 79, just kidding.

Beloved as born-again believers we are free from any condemning charges. 1 John 1: 9 says that if we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us. We get a get out of jail free card. When I am aware of sin all I have to do is confess and I remain free of any condemning charges. Nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Father God, your gift to us is the redeeming work on the cross as your son died for our sins. I praise you that we are free of any condemning charges. I give you poor choices when I overreact and I am angry. or when I feel envy and jealousy. Lord, I ask that I be quick to ask for forgiveness. Lord, I pray for those reading this that may struggle with jealousy, anger, or a multitude of other poor choices that we give these to you and not make the choice to sin. For those of us that struggle with any sin, remember that we can overcome. Because your word says, “if God is for us who can be against us.” Let your love so fill us up that we make right choices. In Jesus name, Amen.

Beloved, will you today walk with Jesus? Read, memorize and digest God’s word. Will you pray and seek God’s goodness? Will you remember you are free from any condemning charge? Will you remember that you are God’s beloved?

We are free in Christ. Redeemed and loved by God.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1
