Jacob’s dream

Do you dream or do you remember your dreams? I have a friend that remembers all of her dreams. I know that I dream but I only have a few that I vividly remember.

I am reading Genesis 28 and Genesis 29.

Jacob leaves his mom and dad and travels leaving Beersheba behind traveling towards Haran. While on his was he stops for a night and finds a rock for a pillow. He dreams of a stairway to heaven with angels of God going up and down the stairway.

One of my most vivid dreams that I have had was about six weeks after my mom died in 1977. What is one of your vivid dreams.

The scripture says at the top of the stairway stood the Lord and He said, I am the LORD……the ground you are lying on belongs to you, Jacob. Your descendants will be numerous. I the Lord am with you and will go with you. Jacob wakes up and decides to make an altar there.

The next chapter is Genesis 29 and it describes Jacob meets Rachel. However, he is tricked into marrying her sister Leah. It is worth the reading of the scripture. He worked seven years to marry Rachel, but to him, it seemed like a few days. The wedding night came and Jacob wakes up the next morning to Leah.

It was not the custom for the younger to marry before the older. Laban gives him Rachel also but he has to work another seven years.

Oh, this story is so rich. God sees how unloved Leah is so he enables her to have children.

There was much strife in this household. Rachel is barren and she becomes angry with Jacob. Jacob declares, “Am I God?”

Finally, God remembers Rachel and she becomes pregnant.

So, my vivid dream was my mom had passed away and about six weeks after her death, I dreamed I got a phone call from her. She told me how beautiful heaven is and that she is free from pain. Her last words to me were, “It is so beautiful up here, I can hardly wait to show you around.”

Beloved, my something old was the dream and the story of Rachel and Leah, my something new was how profound the dream was and the promises of protection from God. My something to do is praise God for the blessings I have in my life.

Father God, thank you for your word. Blended families are hard, will you bless those with a blended family. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Do you have a favorite place to meet with God?
